Product Description

ELVALOY® — Dow’s patented ethylene terpolymer elastomer (commercialized in 1975)

ELVALOY® is a family of high–molecular weight ethylene-based terpolymer elastomers composed of:

  • E = Ethylene

  • VA = Vinyl Acetate or nBA = n-Butyl Acrylate

  • CO = Carbon Monoxide

Key Characteristics

  • High molecular weight design: Highly compatible with PVC; can replace low-molecular-weight plasticizers (e.g., DOP) and eliminate migration issues

  • Excellent physical properties:

    • Outstanding low-temperature impact resistance

    • Superior resistance to microbial attack

    • Good chemical and weather resistance

  • Strong polarity: CO groups provide excellent polarity, greatly enhancing adhesion

  • Broad resin compatibility: ABS, PET, PBT, PVC, PP, PE

Applications by Resin

PVC

  • Rigid PVC sheets/films: Improves moldability and shortens processing cycles

  • Flexible PVC: Enhances weatherability and chemical resistance while preventing plasticizer migration

ABS, PP, PE

  • Small amounts of ELVALOY noticeably improve gloss, impact strength, and melt flow

PET, PBT

  • ELVALOY PTW grades contain GMA functional groups, enabling reaction with polyester chains and significantly improving impact modification

Footwear Applications

  • Increases traction and slip resistance

  • Improves resistance to detergents and oils
