ELVALOY® — Dow’s patented ethylene terpolymer elastomer (commercialized in 1975)
ELVALOY® is a family of high–molecular weight ethylene-based terpolymer elastomers composed of:
E = Ethylene
VA = Vinyl Acetate or nBA = n-Butyl Acrylate
CO = Carbon Monoxide
High molecular weight design: Highly compatible with PVC; can replace low-molecular-weight plasticizers (e.g., DOP) and eliminate migration issues
Excellent physical properties:
Outstanding low-temperature impact resistance
Superior resistance to microbial attack
Good chemical and weather resistance
Strong polarity: CO groups provide excellent polarity, greatly enhancing adhesion
Broad resin compatibility: ABS, PET, PBT, PVC, PP, PE
Rigid PVC sheets/films: Improves moldability and shortens processing cycles
Flexible PVC: Enhances weatherability and chemical resistance while preventing plasticizer migration
Small amounts of ELVALOY noticeably improve gloss, impact strength, and melt flow
ELVALOY PTW grades contain GMA functional groups, enabling reaction with polyester chains and significantly improving impact modification
Increases traction and slip resistance
Improves resistance to detergents and oils
