ELVALOY® — Dow’s patented ethylene terpolymer elastomer (commercialized in 1975)
ELVALOY® is a high–molecular weight ethylene-based terpolymer elastomer composed of:
E = Ethylene
VA = Vinyl Acetate or nBA = n-Butyl Acrylate
CO = Carbon Monoxide
High molecular weight design: Excellent compatibility with PVC; replaces low-molecular-weight plasticizers (e.g., DOP) and eliminates migration issues
Outstanding performance:
Excellent low-temperature impact resistance
High resistance to microbial degradation
Strong chemical and weather resistance
High polarity: CO units significantly improve adhesion to polar materials
Broad resin compatibility: Works with ABS, PET, PBT, PVC, PP, PE
Rigid PVC films/sheets: Improves moldability and shortens processing cycles
Flexible PVC: Enhances weatherability and chemical resistance while preventing plasticizer migration
Small additions of ELVALOY improve gloss, impact strength, and melt flow
ELVALOY PTW grades include GMA functional groups, which react with polyesters to enhance impact modification performance
Improves friction and slip resistance
Enhances resistance to detergents and oils
